Am I correct in understanding that the host computer is totally "transparent" between the guest and the gateway? Therefore the problem is likely a configuration issue with the WIFI access point?
I wouldn't say "totally" transparent however this particular issue has come up often and it is almost always an issue with configuration settings in the WiFi Router when automatic bridging is disabled on VMnet0 and the fact that the VM gets a IP Address on a WiFi Router outside of your office is the primary indicator in this particular case that the issue lies with the Office's WIFi Router.
If the VM's Network Adapter is set to NAT and the Host is only connected to the Office LAN via WiFi can the Guest OS access the Internet, assuming the Host has Internet Connectivity? If the answer to this is yes yet no when the VM is Bridged then the WiFi Router is not allowing multiple IP Addresses to be assigned to the same MAC Address and in some cases once the WiFi Router sees the MAC Address of the Host's WiFi NIC then it doesn't allow additional IP Address to be assigned even though the Guest is bridged directly. This can be either a shortcoming in the firmware or a configurable option in the firmware as many higher end routers/switches have this functionality.
